I was born in Karabük in 1958.
I studied Public Administration.
I am retired, and a mother of two daughters. I live in İstanbul.
At the time of my childhood, there were lots of goods in everyone’s homes decorated with handicrafts. Runners, pilowcases, curtains with cross-stitched ends, even curton rods. Do you know that I have not forgotten not a single detail of them?
Throughout my working life, I have pursued the art of cross stitching as much as I could in my own time. As I had to stitch by counting, I forgot all else that was on my mind. In other words I was resting.
After I retired, I have decided to produce my own designs. I wanted to take this form of stitching to a new dimension. I created designs from our very own culture.
My encounter with Coats is worth mentioning.
I had loads of pilllows which I stitched with Domino threads. We used them all the time. A long time had gone past, like 12 years. One day whilst ironing, I realized that although the threads starting falling apart, the colours remained intact. I decided I shall call Coats and to say “thank you” for producing such good quality material. We have remained in touch since then.
In 2011, I received the title of “Ministry of Culture and Tourism Artist”. It is a proud achievement, to come so far in something I pursued as a hobby. An done that also increases your responsibility, nonetheless.
There are many other projects that I yet wish to bring to life. From my own eyes, my own heart…
